Get to the Point…
Ok, ok, ok. What’s the point? There’s a lot of people out there selling drainage “solutions” and all they know is “French Drain”. I find it comedic, but what I don’t find funny, is when I get called to fix their french drain because it doesn’t work. When it comes to drainage, each solution is as unique as its location. That’s why we visit each site, discuss the problems with each client, discuss goals and then customize the remedy based upon the interview and site conditions.
Things to Look For
Drainage solutions are not limited to just the plan, but includes the materials. If your drainage solution requires an underground piping network, it’s important that the correct pipe material, and pipe itself, is used and installed properly. It’s important a flexible pipe isn’t used under concrete or any hard surface. Black corrugated piping is not to be used where it can be exposed to climatic elements, and you NEVER encase it in concrete. Solid wall vs perforated, know when to use each. Because if you are trying to let water into your network, it can probably exit it as well, huh?
In the End
When it comes to selecting a drainage contractor, it’s important to meet with 2-3 different companies. Read between the lines and be sure they are explaining their solutions for your problem. Make sure the solution meets your goals. Finally, it should be feasible. The more complex the needed the solution, the more it will cost. However, not all solutions are complex. Go with your gut, and your checkbook, but not in reverse order.
